Lancaster mayor battling breast cancer takes on cold water dip charity challenge

Councillor Abi Mills, mayor of Lancaster, will take 12 cold water dips to raise funds for cancer research

The mayor of Lancaster will brave a series of cold water swims to raise funds for a great cause as she battles breast cancer.

Councillor Abi Mills will take the plunge in '12 Dips of Christmas' for Cancer Research UK.

Councillor Mills, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, will go for 12 cold water dips during the festive period.

“I have really missed being able to swim in the lakes and the sea during my chemo treatment, so am so excited to be able to do so again," she said.

"It would be amazing if people would please consider donating on my Giving Page, and a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far."

The mayor said she would be organising one or two group dips over the festive season, and anyone who would like to join in can contact her at amills@lancaster.gov.uk.
