Lancaster hospice team 'over the moon' as Moonlight Walk raises £100,000

The St John's Hospice Moonlight Walk 2024 raised a fantastic £100,000

The return of a popular Moonlight Walk has raised more than £100,000 for a Lancaster hospice.

The team at St John's Hospice on Slyne Road said they were "well and truly over the moon" at the total raised from the event.

The walk returned on the evening of Saturday June 15 after a year's absence as people gathered at the hospice to walk nine miles around the local area, many of them doing so in memory of loved ones.

Walkers wore the green colours of the Lancaster hospice and stopped off at a green-lit Lancaster Castle for a poignant gathering en route.

People were able to add their loved ones' names to a mural at the castle and on a 'Memory Lane' on Morecambe Promenade.

A St John's Hospice spokesperson said: "We are truly over the moon to announce this years return of the Moonlight Walk has raised over a staggering £100,000 gross.

"Thank you to each and everyone one of you who enabled us to put on such a remarkable event. Whether you walked, marshalled, handed out medals or supported your friends and family!

"The amount raised will ensure we can continue to care for our patients and loved ones across our community."

The hospice, which provides palliative care for people in North Lancashire and South Cumbria, has announced the Moonlight Walk will return in 2025.
