A local group has announced a number of events this month aimed at making it easier for people in Lancaster and Morecambe to socialise regularly and make new friends.
Lancaster and Morecambe Oddfellows is inviting people to ramp up their ‘frenergy’ this September by taking part in one of their special energy-boosting events for Friendship Month.
The non-profit group, part of the Preston branch of Oddfellows, says the events are being held to celebrate how good it feels to spend time in friendly company.
There are four taster events across the Lancaster and Morecambe area, which includes a coffee morning at Brew Me Sunshine at 10.30am on Thursday 19th September.
Social Organiser for Lancaster and Morecambe, Fiona Head, said: “We know it all sounds a bit playful, but ‘frenergy’ – the unique energy you get from friendship – is real.
“When you spend time with people you like, or you share a common purpose, it lifts your mood. They don’t need to be best friends, just people you get on with. We benefit from receiving frenergy, but we can also radiate it.
“Even the smallest interaction can provide a frenergy buzz such as seeing someone do something nice for someone else, or sharing a smile.”
Friendship Month is the Oddfellows’ annual festival of friendship. The campaign is held in September and encourages those looking to meet new people locally to give a community or social group a try, such as Preston Oddfellows.
Fiona added: “These events are a perfect opportunity to top up your frenergy levels, and to give some back, too. Newcomers are always welcome.”
Lancaster and Morecambe Oddfellows’ friendship group is made up of mostly older and retired members, however all ages are welcome to join. It is one of 99 branches that make up the Oddfellows’ nationwide network, which is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the UK.
The friendly society aims to improve its members’ lives through friendship and support. As well as its events, Oddfellows members can access a variety of benefits including care and welfare support and a travel club. There are also opportunities to take part in fundraising and volunteering initiatives.
