A Lancaster University researcher is launching a digital recruitment platform that aims to eliminate gender bias from the hiring process.
JobFair is a tool that changes job descriptions with AI technology, ensuring that anyone who can do a particular job applies for it.
Dr. Alice Ashcroft, researcher in gender diversity in technology, is set to launch the platform, just two months before she begins her maternity leave, highlighting her commitment to transforming the tech industry while embracing the challenges of new parenthood.
"The timing couldn't be more significant," shares Dr. Ashcroft, co-founder of JobFair Ltd.
"Launching this business, as we build this platform, as I prepare for the birth of our second child reinforces our mission to create a more inclusive tech industry that supports all life choices and career paths."
Drawing from her extensive research on gender bias in software development and years of industry experience, Dr Ashcroft and Joshua Bailey have developed the platform’s technology to address systemic barriers in recruitment.
The software builds on her current university research, examining the impact of gendered language in software design and development.
JobFair Ltd represents a culmination of Dr. Ashcroft's academic research and industry expertise, offering a practical solution to the challenges she has studied extensively.
The platform will launch in early 2025, with Dr. Ashcroft leading strategic initiatives remotely during her maternity leave.
As both a researcher and content creator with five years of experience, Dr Ashcroft plans to document her journey of launching a startup while preparing for parenthood, providing insight into the realities of combining entrepreneurship with family life.
