A husband and wife team are celebrating the opening of their new "super health and travel clinic" in a historic Lancaster building.
Tariq and Nabila Malik have opened Brock Street Pharmacy in Oddfellows Hall in the city centre, a building which had previously been derelict for many years.
The new pharmacy includes a dedicated travel consultation room, a private clinic for confidential advice and treatment, and a room for 'Pharmacy First' treatments.
Four consulting rooms will allow everything from confidential conversations, cholesterol and blood pressure checks, to ongoing support for giving up smoking and other health services, while a room will be dedicated solely to travel vaccinations.
Below, the Brock Street Pharmacy team celebrate the opening with Tony Johnson from Lancaster BID (Business Improvement District).
The 19th century building was previously home to Bensons for Beds, had been shut for more than a decade and concerns had been growing about its declining condition.
But for the past few months, extensive renovations have been taking place on the site on the one-way system through Lancaster.
In March, planning permission was granted for 24 student flats in the upper floors of the premises, with the ground floor remaining as a shop unit, after an application by Inayat Munshi, of Brock Developments Ltd.
And this week, a post on the new Brock Street Pharmacy Facebook page said: "After all the discussions, planning, lifting, shifting, decorating and hours and hours of talking, our dream of combining both our Dalton Square Pharmacy and King Street Pharmacy into one super Health and Travel Clinic has finally come true."
A further post said: "Nabila, Tariq and all the gang are here to help you and you’ll find Brock Street gives us bigger, better and purpose built room to help you with all your pharmacy needs. We’ve a dedicated travel consultation room, a private clinic for confidential advice and treatment, and a room where we can administer 'Pharmacy First' treatments."
The Maliks have been practising pharmacists in the city for more than 20 years, initially on Ullswater Road and later on Dalton Square and King Street. The pharmacies there will now close.
The new premises will be open seven days a week, and will include on-the-spot services designed to take pressure off stretched NHS providers.
