Beyond Radio presenter fighting cancer entering Great North Run on his '60 Before 60 Challenge'

Beyond Radio's Phil McGrath will run the world's biggest half marathon as part of his '60 Before 60 Challenge' as he battles cancer.

Phil, presenter of The Quick Draw Radio Show on Beyond Radio, will take on the 13.1 mile run from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to South Shields on Sunday September 8.

It will be the fifth time he has taken part in the Great North Run, and this time he will be raising funds for Citizens Advice North Lancashire where he works.

In Phil's '60 Before 60' Challenge he is doing 60 things he's never done before, ahead of his 60th birthday in April.

He is also facing his own personal challenge, as he is being treated for non-curative lung cancer, after twice beating cancer before.

As the Macmillan adviser at Citizen's Advice in Lancaster, he helps others facing a similar battle.

A spokesperson for Citizen's Advice said: "We are so proud of him - facing cancer and still running half marathons, always with a daft costume, a joke and a cheeky smile!"

Citizen's Advice gives advice to anyone who needs it to help them solve the problems they are facing.

Phil has completed more than 40 challenges so far, including taking a selfie with a Harlem Globetrotter basketball player, running the Tolkien Trail, taking on a game of 'electric shock' laser tag in Morecambe, and completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
