Wins for young Morecambe fighters on amateur boxing show

Young Morecambe fighters had their hands raised at the latest Coastal Amateur Boxing Club show.

Bob Howard was victorious by unanimous decision thanks to an all-action display against Ewan Wetzig of Tyldesley Centurions at the show on Saturday night.

Leo Mountain of Coastal also won a deserved unanimous points verdict over Leo Creer of Isle of Man Amateur Boxing Club.

And Adam Bonnell (pictured below, left) of Morecambe and District (MAD) Boxing showed dazzling punch variety, hand speed and power to defeat William Crank of Walkden ABC over three impressive rounds.

Other local boxers in action at the show, held at Red Rose Community Centre on West End Road, included Warren Westworth from Coastal, who took part in a 'skills' non-scored bout with Toby Brooks from Larches & Savick.

Dave Harrison of Coastal lost a unanimous decision to Beau Dixon from Flookburgh, while Billy Thompson was also on the wrong end of a unanimous verdict against Jack Waddington of Tyldesley Centurions.

Thompson, though (pictured below left), deserved huge credit for battling on despite two standing counts in the second round, to come on strong in the final round and finish the fight on-top.

Declan Wakeman of Coastal and Kian Hamilton of LA Boxing engaged in a very close fight, with two of the three judges preferring Hamilton's aggression to Wakeman's cleaner combinations in a split decision which could have gone either way.

The show closed with Tom Murray of Isle of Man ABC beating Jack Gregory of Halliwell ABC by unanimous decision.
