Life of dedicated scout leader will be celebrated in Morecambe

Alan Hague BEM

The life of a long-serving leader of a Morecambe scout group will be celebrated at the HQ he helped to build.

Alan Hague BEM, who died in March after a long illness, was a mainstay and driving force of the 16th Morecambe Scouts in Torrisholme.

Lonsdale District Scouts and Alan's family are inviting former leaders and scouts to the 16th Morecambe Scout HQ on Michaelson Avenue on Saturday April 27 from 4pm to 7pm - to chat and reminisce about Alan's decades of involvement with scouting in Torrisholme.

"Were you a scout with Alan, either as a leader or one of the young people that he helped with skills for life?" said a post on the Lonsdale District Scouts Facebook page.

"If so you are invited to join Joan and Alison Hague to celebrate the life of Alan Hague BEM along with past and present scouts and leaders from 16th Morecambe."

Alan was the secretary of Lonsdale District Scouts, ex-group scout leader of 16th Morecambe Scout Group, archivist and long-serving leader and trustee who helped build the HQ of 16th Morecambe Scouts.

He started as an assistant scout leader at 16th Morecambe in 1960, before becoming a scout leader.

Upon his retirement as scout leader, Alan became the district secretary assuming responsibility for the administration of the organisation in Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area.

It was announced in 2015 that he had been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen's New Year's Honours List.
